My Favourite Base Makeup Products For A Healthy Glow

Hope you are well! x

Today’s post is all about my illuminating base makeup routine that I’ve been wearing a lot of lately as we’ve had such a good summer here in the UK! It’s not very often us British get to embrace a bit of shimmery skin as we’re never exactly blessed with good weather, but I’ve been using a variety of products over the last few months that have been giving me the most healthiest, glowy skin I’ve ever had! So as summer seems to officially be over and we are creeping into autumn, I thought it would be nice to do a little review on all the beautiful products I’ve been using that have given me dewy, luminous skin – because let’s be honest, who says highlighter and radiant blushers are only for the summer months, right? I’m always reaching for the bronzer and shimmer, whatever the season, and I actually feel like we need a bit of glow in autumn and winter more than ever, who’s with me!?

So I’m hoping this post will give you petals a little insight into some fabulous items that you may actually want to purchase for yourselves to carry into the colder months! I will pop the links in the product titles below so you can easily check them out and I’d love to know what you think! I won’t waffle loads about each item as I know we all just wanna get down to the nitty gritty, but I’ll make sure to include the essentials of why they’re so fab!

Happy Reading poppets! (and shopping)!  ♥

Laura Mercier ‘Radiance’ Foundation Primer

Okay, so this primer from Laura Mercier is just perfect for if you’re wanting a simple, natural, healthy glow for under your base. It can also be used on it’s own if you’re just after a subtle hint of something but generally speaking, this is fab under your foundation. It creates a sheer canvas that isn’t anything heavy or too much, but that allows your makeup to sink into  (whilst letting through a touch of radiance).

Laura Mercier ‘Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer in ‘Natural’

Next up is this beautiful tinted moisturiser (that I can hands down say is the best tinted moisturiser I have ever come across in my life)! Personally, I prefer to have a little more coverage than most people might like for daytime base makeup (usually a medium coverage is what I prefer) – and this gives just that!  I often find with tinted moisturisers that they’re much like face creams with very little colour? If that makes any sense at all! I find the coverage and shade is much like adding the absolute tiniest speck of foundation to a large amount of moisturiser – which to me personally seems like a complete waste of money and time as that’s somthing you could whizz up yourself at home! Yes I know the whole point is that it is a very natural product that gives you next to nothing in terms of coverage but – no coverage at all?? Come onnn man!

So when I came across this little miracle product I was stunned at how amazing it actually is! I use a pea sized amount of this on top of my ‘Laura Mercier Radiance Primer’ and it just gives the perfect amount of colour and coverage that is lightweight yet buildable and is of a similar consistency to a foundation formula. It’s sheer enough to allow your natural skin to peek through but it hides any blemishes or blotches you may want to hide. But in a nutshell = it’s gorgeous and I highly recommend you trying it out if you’re after a light, natural glow!

BECCA Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation in ‘Medium’

Now sometimes I don’t always feel the need to use this foundation as the next step to my makeup routine, as Laura Mercier’s ‘Tinted Moisturiser’ has usually done all the work for me! However sometimes when I’m fancying a bit more of a glowy look for a lovely day out perhaps (or when I’m just wanting a tad more coverage), I dab very small amounts of BECCA’s ‘Aqua Luminous Foundation’ onto the main areas of my face (cheeks, forehead, nose and chin) and gently blend into my skin to create a beautiful, flawless lit-within effect. This foundation provides light to medium coverage but  I would say you only need the tiniest drop to give even medium coverage! It’s a fabulous light consistency so it’s easily buildable if you would prefer a heavier look and it just gives the most gorgeous dewy finish , I can’t even tell you guys! You have to try it to see what I mean- it’s unlike any other dewy face product I’ve tried!

Laura Geller The Real Deal Concealer (Serious Coverage) in ‘Medium’

Okay, so again, this is a step that I often leave out unless I’m having a really rubbish skin day (specifically around that time of the month!) But this concealer is my No.1 baby for covering blemishes, redness or general skin grumbles! Since I’ve started using it, I haven’t turned to any other concealer – it’s just so fab and really is what it claims to be- ‘serious coverage’. I cannot stress how little of this you need, even half a pea sized amount would most likely be too much, so do go steady with it or you’ll end up with a bit of a cake face I would imagine! However when used sparingly, this will give you amazing coverage and will virtually camouflage scarring, blemishes, redness and blotchiness, leaving a seamless finish that lasts all day- no re-applying needed!

This doesn’t exactly contribute to the makeup routine in terms of highlighting haha, but I thought it was well worth including in case there are any girlies out there after a good ol’ concealer that actually does cover what you want it to! I will say as well- I’ve had the one little tube for well over a year now and it’s still going strong- so it really is worth it for the money!

Illamasqua Radiance Veil ‘Illuminating Primer’

Part primer, part illuminator, this velvet creme goodness is a dream! Personally I use this as more of a liquid highlighter on the high points of my face (cheekbones and nose), however I believe lots of people like to mix it up into their foundation to give a really beautiful lit within look. It has very fine shimmer particles within it that inject light onto the face creating a gorgeous luminous effect. As you can see from the picture below, there’s not really a way of making the product look appealing, as it’s quite a messy, gloopy consistency (which surprisingly makes for a really easy application)! It blends amazingly into the skin and doesn’t drag or stay put in just the one area, it’s quite simple to dab and blend the product exactly where you want it!

Nars Blush in ‘Orgasm’

Now I’ve never really been a huge blusher fan (I’m a bronzer gal all the way), however I’ve always heard such amazing things about Nars’s most popular and best selling blush powder ‘Orgasm,’ a peachy pink shade with gold shimmer which is honestly so gorgeous and also universally flattering! Anyway a little while ago, after a lot of umming and ahhing, I just had to purchase it and give it a go- and I’m so glad I did as I’m now hooked and use it every single day (as well as bronzer of course)! You only need the tiniest sweeping of it over the apples of your cheeks to give a flush of natural colour that looks so rosey and beautiful! Not only that but it gives the most subtle sheen of gold shimmer that can only really be seen when the light hits your face a certain way. It’s just so perfect- would highly recommend for anyone!

BECCA Sunchaser Palette

I purchased this palette last year and as you can see, I have completely hit pan on the ‘Sunlit Bronzer’ (shade- Ipanema Sunset) and also the ‘Shimmering Skin Perfector’ (in Opal) has been much loved too! (Opal is a shimmery golden-peach shade which is super pretty and will look beautiful on all skin tones!) The blush powder (Apricot Blossom), is a lovely pinky coral shade that you don’t need much of at all and as I mentioned, I’m not a huge blush lover so unfortunately, I haven’t dipped into that as much as the others. However, after finding my new found love for Nars’ ‘Orgasm’, I’ve been nipping into this a bit more often now and am loving it! I am gutted to of finished off the bronzer though, as it was the most perfect shade that gave a gorgeous beachy warmth to your skin, however I’m so happy to have recently got my mitts on BECCA’s brand new bronze and highlight palette ‘Be A Light,’ (which I can’t blinkin’ wait to do a blog post on for you guys)! The shades are unbelievable and blend into the skin amazingly so I’ll soon have a brand new favourite bronzer I’m sure! (Watch this space)!…

Sadly, I think ‘The Sunchaser’ palette is now unavailable for purchase, however do check out the link in the title above to browse BECCA’s choice of bronzers, blushers and highlighters, as I’m fairly sure from the variety of skin products the brand offers, there will be the exact (or if not similar), shades sold as individual products. I know for sure ‘Opal’ is sold singly and there are lots of different bronzers and blushers also, so do check them out!

Below are the results of these products on myself- so hopefully you can see the natural, glowy look they achieve! ♥ I feel like you can visibly notice BECCA’s ‘Aqua Luminous Foundation’, NARS ‘Orgasm’ blush and the Illamasqua ‘Illuminating primer,’ as a whole, but nonetheless they all make for a beautiful radiant look ♥

Thank you for reading as always! I hope it’s been of some use and you find some glowy products you love! x
