My Drugstore Favourites Of The Month

Evening my lil’ meringue swirls!

I’ve been wanting to get a drugstore makeup favourites done for a little while now and I just haven’t got round to it! But I thought it’d be quite a useful post to do as I think it can sometimes be quite difficult to find something that suits you as, there’s just so many products to choose from nowadays! It’s very easy to just wander aimlessly up and down the beauty aisle in Boots and Superdrug without actually knowing what will work for you! Anyone relating? So below I’m going to list a few products (along with the links on where to find them)- that I find work really well for me and that I’m a huge fan of!

From left (clockwise) –  Rimmel ‘Stay Matte’ powder, Soap and Glory ‘One Heck of a Blot’ primer, Bourjois ‘123 Perfect’ foundation, Maybelline ‘Oil Luscious’ mascara, MUA ‘Cover and Conceal’, MUA LUXE ‘Precision Felt Liner’

Rimmel ‘Stay Matte’ powder in ‘005 Silky Beige’

So this powder is your basic, all- round amazing lil’ powder that does exactly what it says on the tin. It provides up to 5 hours natural shine control with natural minerals and helps to minimise the appearance of pores. Personally I absolutely love this and I use it every single day without ever feeling the need to top it up throughout the day (as it really does provide such good coverage)! I find that it really sets your base makeup amazingly and provides a fabulous matte finish that is long lasting and doesn’t give a cakey finish. It also smooths your complexion and gives a velvety-soft effect which is always lovely to have, let’s be honest! And for the affordable price it is, its an absolute essential to your makeup routine!

Soap and Glory ‘One Heck Of  A Blot’  Instant – Perfecting Power primer

Now, I’ve never really been a huge fan of primer and I wouldn’t say it’s a step in my makeup that I feel I must take; but I managed to pick this up sometime last year in a 3 for 2 offer and thought it was worth a try. This primer provides perfect shine-free skin and contains ‘Pore-Shrink Technology’ and ‘Shine-Bloc 12hr Matte Spheres,’ to give amazing shine-free skin and the appearance of invisible pores. Now my pores aren’t something that I struggle with in particular, but even still, this primer is a really lovely product that glides onto the skin smoothly and provides a great base for your foundation. I’ve noticed that my makeup definitely stays on longer than if I wasn’t wearing any primer, even though I don’t personally notice much visible pore-shrinking going on (but I think that’s more as it’s not my problem area). Therefore I’d be very curious to know how this primer would work on those with skin that does suffer with larger pores, as I feel this would work even more fabulous for you!

Bourjois ‘1,2,3 Perfect Foundation’ in ‘No 54 Beige’

Okay so next up is Bourjois’ ‘1,2,3 Perfect Foundation’ which I pretty much use every single day and absolutely love! It provides flawless, even skin for up to 16 hrs and contains 3 correcting pigments that balance your skin tone, correct and conceal. The three main colour pigments are; ‘yellow’ (to conceal dark circles), ‘mauve’ (to correct dullness and boost radiance) and ‘green’ (to neutralise redness) . It’s an amazing product at great value and if I didn’t know it was a Bourjois product, I would honestly think it was a luxury brand! The foundation is lovely and hydrating and I’d say it’s light-medium coverage however you can definitely build it up to how you like it. Also, once I’ve applied this, I find that I don’t need to use many more concealing products on my face, and if I do, then it’s always the teeniest amount as the foundation gets a good amount of correcting and concealing done for you = BONUS.

Maybelline ‘Lash Sensational Luscious’ Mascara

Right, this is just my favourite mascara ever. I’ve tried many a mascara in my time but hands down, nothing beats this. This is Maybelline’s ‘Lash Sensational Luscious’ mascara and I have never tried anything that shoots my lashes up as quickly as this does. It creates a multiplying lash effect and contains a luxurious oil- infused formula which gives you gorgeous dense lashes that are literally GIANT. Obviously, depending on how you like your lashes to look, you can brush on one coat and leave it at that (fairly sure that’s all you need tbh) but me being me, I have to see how far I can go to get mega-lashes because life’s just too bloody short in my opinion! And my goodness, does it live up to expectations! Three coats in and you’ve got lashes reaching your blinkin’ eyebrows= goals? I think so. (Okay maybe ‘ up by your eyebrows’ is a slight exaggeration- but near enough)! This mascara also has a fanning brush that reaches each and every lash and coats from root to tip which is ideal as I hate trying to work with those awkward brushes that you have to angle a certain way to reach every lash. So basically, I can’t part with this mascara, it’s now my No.1 fave and I’m obsessed with the soft, plush effect it creates- you all need. You won’t be disappointed.

MUA ‘Cover and Conceal’ concealer in ‘Natural’

This is a nifty and affordable little product (at only a few pound) that does a great job at concealing what you need it to. I only really use this for concealing under eye circles but it works an absolute treat and is so easy to apply as it’s a wand applicator that you can swipe, dab or dot under the eyes. I haven’t used this on any other area (as I have a separate concealer for that) however I believe it would do a rather good job on covering up small blemishes. I feel that it blends seamlessly into the eye area  and conceals any darkness amazingly so I would 100% recommend this if you’re on a budget or just looking for something cheap to try out- it’s fab and I use it all the time! I do think they may have possibly changed the  packaging and the name as when I tried to find it to link for you, I noticed the it was’t exactly the same (nonetheless, I’m sure it’s the very same product – or at least very similar)!

MUA ‘Luxe Precision’ felt liner

Now I do love a bit of liquid liner even though it’s not something I use every single day. As I don’t use it as regularly as I’d like (due to the fact I just don’t have the concentration that is required for it at 6am most mornings haha), I’ve always been inclined to splash out on an expensive liner. So anyway, I came across this sometime last year I think, and I haven’t stopped using it since! It’s again, super affordable, but you just wouldn’t know the difference between this and something higher end. It provides such high intensity colour and has an easy felt tip applicator that isn’t too tricky to use at all. I think the general rule is that you just need to train yourself to have a steady hand when using liquid liner haha! Even so, it’s a great little product that is easy to use and seems to last an age! I would highly recommend it!
